This is a picture of the beginning process of our mountain project. My partner, Gisselle Arteaga, and I created a design of what we wanted the end product to look like. Then on a 2ft by 4 ft board, we drew the design on there. From there, we took 2 inch wide wood pieces, we measured and cut them to however we wanted it to be according to the design. After we had all our pieces cut, we stained each of our pieces. Then, we added a border. Lastly, we put a polyurethane finish on top.
Challenges The most challenging part of this project for us we measuring the wood pieces and cutting the pieces accurately. This was the first time we had to use a miter saw and cut things very accurately. There were many times when things would somehow go wrong and we had to re do certain pieces. Another challenge we had was that we would somehow constantly lose our wood pieces. Each group jointed, planed, and sanded their pieces of wood, but we would constantly not find them the next day which was frustrating.
Thoughts I actually enjoyed this project because I like the end result a lot. Another thing I enjoyed was getting the chance to create something pretty visually appealing in my opinion. It took way longer than I thought it was going to take, but I think that was my fault for getting distracted easily.
What I Learned From this, I gained more experience using power tools like the miter saw, planer, jointer, and track saw, which are all things I had not used before this. I also had never built anything with my own hands that I've been proud of like this.
